Allendale

Allendale Town lies at the gateway to the high North Pennines. Visitors to the area will discover a place of exceptional beauty – a nationally protected landscape that is steeped in history, rich in wildlife, local traditions and culture. The countryside here is full of contrasts from the sometimes bleak and windswept upland heather moorlands to the deep wooded dales where red squirrels can often be seen. The distinctive chimneys that are such a feature of the local skyline provide a strong visual reminder of the area’s lead mining past. You can find out more at the community website or at the Visit Northumberland website page for Allendale.
