Walltown Country Park

Lots of people agree, Walltown is a brilliant place!
There’s easy access around the park, toilets, and hot drinks and snacks (closed for refurbishment during 2018). The car park and bike store are monitored by CCTV, and the Hadrian’s Wall Bus stops here too. It’s next to the Roman Army Museum and if you’re up for an adrenalin rush you can tread in the soldiers’ footsteps, marching up to one of the tallest and most inspiring parts of Hadrian’s Wall.
There’s a clue trail for kids and a hard rock trail to help you discover the park’s wildlife, fossils, geology and mining history.
If you’re up for a challenge there’s an orienteering pack, and for the more romantic there’s a stroll to the medieval ruin of Thirlwall Castle. Bring a football or frisbee and enjoy the open space and views, then let the ducks clean up the crumbs from your picnic, while you watch the walkers on the Pennine Way and Hadrian’s Wall National Trail yomp past.
